Before the rain stopped falling, Vermonters throughout the state were already reaching out to their neighbors. People left their own precarious situations to check on community members who were also in danger. Vermonters showed remarkable selflessness in the immediate crisis, and continue to show resilience and resourcefulness as they deal with long term recovery. All around the state, groups and citizens continue to step up to organize volunteers and identify projects for those most in need.
The need for volunteers continues. Please donate your time or services through the following organizations.

VERMONT DISASTER RELIEF FUND:
The Vermont Disaster Relief Fund (VDRF) is the state-wide fund dedicated to helping Vermonters bridge the gap of unmet needs of recovery. The fund was created following the Spring floods last year and provides funding to Vermont families with unmet needs in their recovery from both the Spring floods and Tropical Storm Irene. The Vermont Disaster Relief Fund and Governor Shumlin are counting on Vermonters and Vermonters-at-heart to support the continued recovery of families devastated by Irene.
It is the intent of the VDRF to be the fund of last resort; available for those who have exhausted the aggregate proceeds from personal insurance, FEMA assistance, local long-term recovery funds and/or other grant programs. Personal assets and Small Business Administration (SBA) eligibility will be evaluated in determining the merits of a grant request.
All of the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund proceeds are to provide direct assistance to pay the costs incurred by Vermonters addressing unmet needs in their ongoing recovery. No money raised for the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund will be used for administrative or fundraising purposes.
